WHAT HAVE I LEARNT? NEWSPAPER MARKING ACTIVITY
Name: Ananya
Roll no. : 24/302
On a very busy Friday in the class, we were all told to bring Hindi and English newspapers and sketch pens ‘red and blue’, to perform an activity.
I was sceptical about the learning, since we had performed a similar activity a while ago. But oh! Was I wrong!
‘The Newspaper Marking’ activity taught me the art of working with a team and exercising team work and coordination, an important aspect of class activities.
The practical aspect of this activity taught me how to identify the 5Ws and 1H in the reports and stories. How, often in the stories, these aspects are overlapped and difficult to find.
For the second part of it, we were asked to count advertisements- both government and private in the news letters. Newspaper Supplement A had 6 commercial and 1 government advertisements. Newspaper B had 17 commercial and 2 government ads while Newspaper C had 42 commercial ads and 5 government ads.
We realised the relation of advertisements with the readership and availability of the newspapers. Which was quite interesting to know.
One of my favourite parts about this assignment was finding the various instances of ‘attribution’. We pinned and marked the various articles showcasing attribution and interestingly enough found a difference in the way stories were attributed in Hindi and English newspapers.
And a learning bigger than all of this, was working in a team, understanding everyone’s strengths and just- having fun!
