The newspaper activity assigned on 27th September 2024 was conducted today, 30 September 2024 during the practical periods.
It was an engaging activity where as a group we analyzed 6 newspapers to find 5 Ws and 1H in the articles along with finding out the number of pages and advertisements each newspaper has. We further classified the ads into government and private/commercial ads.
There were 3 Hindi and 3 English papers, among them paper A had 2 ads, both private, along with a classifieds section, it had 6 pages in total. In paper B, there were 12 pages, 25 ads, 21 private and rest government. Paper C had a staggering amount of ads, in its 20 pages there were 42 private and 1 government ad. Paper D had 22 pages, 2 government and 6 private ads. Lastly, Paper Epaper E had 12 pages, 14 ads among with 11 were private ads and the rest government ads.
It was a fruitful activity that helped develop critical thinking skills and enlarged our knowledge about kinds of ads in newspapers. It helped me understand that some papers have comparatively less ads than others but as an important revenue source, ads are present in all newspapers.
