We were assigned an activity to analyze various English and Hindi newspapers. The task involved counting the number of pages and advertisements, classifying them as private or government. We also identified the 5Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and 1H (How), along with the credit line and byline.
I analyzed 4 newspapers:
Newspaper A had 24 pages and 6 ads (2 from the newspaper itself, 1 government, and 3 private).
Newspaper B had 12 pages and 25 ads (21 private, 4 government).
Newspaper C had 20 pages and 43 ads (42 private, 1 government).
Newspaper D had 22 pages and 8 ads (6 government, 2 private).
This activity taught us how newspapers balance content and advertisements, with insights into how ads are structured. It also highlighted the importance of identifying journalistic elements and understanding the inverted pyramid scheme used in news stories.
