This report aims to provide a comprehension analysis of the subject matter we’ve learned in last two semesters.This particular piece will revolve around the basics of journalism and print medium. It explores the concepts of headlines, subheadings, interviewing skills, fake news and neutrality.

The onset of this semester had our first topic of discussion,headlines. HEADLINES serve as the first point of contact between readers and a news article. They are concise and attention – grabbing statements that summarise the essence of a news story. This not only helped us understand the matter,but also identify the types and purpose of it. In the guest lecture held once by our alumna,we acquired the techniques for crafting effective headlines that engage readers and accurately represent the content.

Next up,we had sub headings. Subheadings play a vital role in structuring news articles and enhancing readability. They break down the content into smaller sections, allowing readers to navigate through the material more easily. In this section we explored the significance of subheadings in organizing information, highlighting key points, and guiding readers’ attention. We had a fun newspaper making activity,wherein my understanding of subheadings assisted me frame an informative newspaper.

Interviewing is a crucial skill for journalists to gather information, gain insights, and present diverse perspectives.And to get the basic know how of it,we did interview our professors,gardener,etc. This interview showed us the art of conducting effective interviews, including the preparation process, active listening techniques, and strategies for building rapport with interviewees.It also emphasized the importance of ethical considerations, such as seeking informed consent and ensuring accuracy in reporting interviewee statements.

Furthermore,we had fake news.In the era of digital media, the proliferation of fake news has become a significant concern. This section explores the concept of fake news, including its definition, characteristics, and potential consequences. It also discusses the role of journalists in combating fake news through fact-checking, verification of sources, and responsible reporting practices. We had a little group discussion regarding the same and we came up with methods to combat it.

We then had discussion on the importance of neutrality in print journalism, including its role in fostering public trust, presenting balanced perspectives, and avoiding personal biases. We also talked about ethical challenges related to neutrality and the need for journalists to maintain independence in their reporting.

All of these learnings were branches of a tree called reporting and editing in print.We came through the full circle to discuss the process of reporting and editing in print journalism. It involves multiple stages to produce accurate, concise, and engaging content. We discovered the key steps, including gathering information, fact-checking, structuring the article, editing for clarity and grammar, and ensuring adherence to editorial guidelines. It also emphasizes the significance of thorough proofreading and collaboration between reporters and editors. We’ve had multiple classes to understand the practical aspects of it,right from theory to bring it to use, we’ve done it all.

This semester was filled with practical assignments than theory ones,this helped us all get attentive and excited about the subject matter. This report had given all the highlights of what all we learnt and did in our classroom sphere.
