The last eight months in the department of journalism, LSR have been nothing short of a dream. I jumped from having to study subjects like physics, chemistry which I had absolutely no interest in to getting to study interesting papers like introduction to journalism, report and editing in print, advertisement and public relations, etc. Under the guidance of Dr. Vartika Nanda ma’am, we’ve not only gathered infinite knowledge and an insight into her career as a journalist, but also we’ve learnt a lot of valuable life skills that are going to stay with us lifelong. Studying in the media lab of LSR has never been just about completing the syllabus, writing reports, discussing headlines or subheadings or studying long boring theories. It is so much more than that. I’ve been called lucky every time I tell someone that we get to make creative films, short videos and even conduct interviews. We’re indeed lucky enough to be able to study and pursue our dreams in one of the best institutions of our country. The key highlight of both the papers studied with Nanda ma’am has been her focus on making sure we acquire ethical journalistic skills like neutrality. Neutrality is considered one of the central standards of journalism. Apart from that, my favourite activity that I’ve done since coming to college has been interviewing people. It was one of major reason why I choose Journalism as my major in the first place. I posses good people skills and can easily strike a friendly healthy discussion with a stranger. College has further helped me to nourish my interviewing skills. To sum up, one doesn’t come out of this place without acquiring all required skills to be a good journalist.
