An assignment for the paper REP 4th July

MY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE WITH REGARDS TO TWO MAJOR CORE PAPERS (REP & IOJ)
200-600 words

When I first set foot here in LSR as a confused, overwhelmed fresher student, it was IOJ (Introduction to Journalism) which laid some core foundations of the discipline to me; acquainting me to the various principles, practices, and responsibilities of journalism.

Firstly, the role and importance of journalism was covered in great detail in the paper. It made me realize the power and role of journalism in society as the fourth pillar of democracy emphasizing its function in promoting transparency, accountability, and democracy.
The paper also broke down to me the minute intricacies of what goes inside a news article. For example, learning about the news values made me understand how journalists make decisions about what stories to cover and how to prioritize information. It covered the criteria which determines newsworthiness, such as timeliness, proximity, impact, prominence, and human interest.

The paper played a huge role in equipping us with the essential skills and knowledge for our future careers as early as in the first semester.

The core paper in second semester REP (Report and editing in print) familiarized me with the basic terminologies of print media with special emphasis on reporting. As someone who takes great interest in writing and has a flair for writing, I thoroughly enjoyed this course.
The paper instilled in us the necessary skills that will help us further as media professionals. Right from covering beats, interviewing, news leads/intros to editing, everything was included in these papers and I am hopeful these learnings will help me in not just in the coming semesters but also in my professional pursuits.
One most important skill that these papers instilled in me was doing research.
