Anticipation surged through me as I hurriedly checked my admissions portal upon landing from my flight, restless, inadvertently nudging the seat in front of me. The day I had wondered about for years would finally arrive and it would be at an institution I had only ever dreamt of attending. It wasn’t only me who had wished so earnestly to get into LSR, but most of my family, especially my mother, who would often tell me she envisioned me walking through the terracotta-coloured halls of the college.
My first day at the resplendent campus of the coveted Lady Shri Ram College for Women was like entering a completely different realm. As I walked in through the main gate, meandering through the ever so magnificently green gardens, glancing at the stately buildings for the first time, the institution seemed to embody a rush of sheer charisma. LSR is a sanctuary for young, passionate and empowered women; an accessible space for every girl with a zeal for exploring her true potential.
Throughout my weeks of attendance, LSR has consistently embodied the qualities, ethos, and charm that I had fervently sought in an educational establishment. A magnetic force seems to bind you the moment you step foot on campus. There’s a palpable sense of camaraderie among the students, a feeling that we are all on this journey of learning and self-discovery together. Even the third-year students, with whom I had only shared fleeting encounters during school days, were so enthusiastic to help me navigate through the entire process of adapting to the environment of the college. They extended great support and frequently checked in on how I was acclimating. They weren’t obligated to do so, however, their assistance and encouragement helped me familiarise myself with the change of space. The seniors from within the Journalism department were so warm, welcoming and receptive. It was like coming home to a family and wanting to stay forever. The kind and close-knit community of students made an indelible mark on me.
The faculty of the college is remarkable, and the wisdom and amiability of the professors were elucidated through their addresses to the first-year students. Their engaging conversations about life at the institution were extremely memorable. Their genuine interest in getting to know each of us harbours great hope for the inspiration and mentorship they will undoubtedly provide during my academic journey.
While I’ve only just experienced the initial stages of the ‘magic of LSR’, I am extremely eager to explore different facets of the college throughout the semester. Having been highly involved with school clubs and extracurriculars throughout, I would love to experience the vibrant societies and be involved in activities, making the most of the opportunities that come my way and the most of the ‘magic’ that LSR has to offer.
