Television, often abbreviated as T.V., has been the most prominent source of mass media in my life. From watching the most random daily soaps with my mother in the afternoon followed by watching news and sports channels with my father in the evening to now watching web shows on television, we have seen the rectangular box evolving as much as the television has witnessed us growing. When internet and mobile phones were not so accessible and advanced, television was our only source of entertainment and I still remember the intense battles between my brother and me as whether we should watch my favourite cartoon or the cricket match that India was playing. As an early 2000s child, television obviously has an important role in my life as it was our only source of entertainment for the longest time. Television is perhaps the most popular source of mass media as it serves news in an audio visual form, often using VFX nowadays which makes it quite attractive. It offers us news and updates from all parts of the world at the very same time when the event is taking place. This has led to the world coming much closer to us. Television has also led to moulding everyone’s personality, including mine. As we go on to watch different characters and people on the screen, we try to enact them, and sometimes, even take after the way they talk and carry themselves in an unknowing manner. While television was my favourite passtime as a child, I have now been trying to stay away from it as it now seems to spread toxicity in the way they present their content. However, I cannot deny the fact that it still remains the ultimate mass medium for people across all ages, considering the vast variety of content it has to offer- from music to news to movies and what not.
