Reminiscent of times gone by,for my family Aakashvani has always been a collective echo of voices, agendas amd viewpoints that are wanting to be heard.Be it the struggle for independence narrated by my grandparents where a myriad of freedom strugglers had their wings clipped, yet audaciously chose to take the difficult flight, even if they were given a fixed time slot to be on the radio and speak with a bullet hanging from their heart or the transitioned phase of the 50’s-60’s when it took over into a literary drive to educate the masses and simultaneously tickle their bones.Although aakashwani has been operating in public interest in the larger landscape, its mouth was taped in the 70’s when severe restrictions were imposed and emergency situation sirened fear amongst the common man.For my parents, radio has always been the primary source of Information as it chirped throughout the day and had an upper hand over print at a time when Doordarshan had not entered the larger picture.Since the entry of digital media and television, the larger public opinion about the radio has narrowed down by heaps as my parents put it that radio was not as powerful as it used to be,now that the unifying thread has been replaced by social media.Yet,all in all,as they put it,even today,an Aakashwani is like a prediction made ahead of time ,with and sends surrealism in those remote areas where the antennas and remote signals haven’t yet seen the light of the day.
