My prime aim behind taking up Journalism as my major was to gain practical knowledge and experience in the world of Mass Communication. And working on a Newsletter for my Introduction to Journalism’s practical assignment was my first such practical learning. I was surely nervous for it was my first ever college assignment but excited too. Our topic was “Magic of Doordarshan”. Doordarshan is something that our generation is not much aquainted with especially before COVID and we would mostly tune in to this channel to watch the Republic Day Parade. So, knowing Doordarshan in so much detail was surely a fascinating thing. The assignment allowed me to know about Doordarshan in a very detailed manner. Before coming across this assignment, I was not even aware of what a Newsletter actually meant. It was a group assignment and I managed the editing and designing part of it. It was a great learning experience as I learnt how to make a newsletter, work efficiently as a team and also got to research and interview my parents about Doordarshan. But my biggest takeaway was looking at others’ works which were so artistic and beautiful that gave me the realisation that everyone around us is as good as us or even better and that we should keep on pushing us harder every day to keep up with the people working in whichever industry we are a part of.
