As journalism students, its quite essential for us to be acquainted with newspaper. In one of our practical classes, we were given the task to scan newspapers and point out the things that we have learnt in two months of our theory class. It was an engaging and fun assignment as we formed groups, carefully scanned through the pages to find what we already knew, and surf about the things that we were not familiar with. In the process, we learnt a lot of things, as initially we were just aware of them theoritically, but this time we were practically seeing them. We read hard and soft news stories, thereby distinguishing between the two, located the credit line, date line, byline, saw featured photographs, political cartoons and much more. We also identified the different componemts of news, some criterias on which news articles were published and also came across what terms such as flap and mast head meant.

In all, it was a great learning experience and I am looking forward to work on some more such practical assignmemts.
