Internet has become an inevitable part in our lives today. From reaching out to our family who stays miles away to relying on it for our daily dose of news, internet has done it all for us.
As someone who was born in the 21st century, majority of the news content that I have absorbed as a teenager is through the source of internet. The easy accessibility of internet today means that communication through the means of new media has become very easy. News through internet flows very easily which has also given rise to citizen journalism as anyone and everyone can post their opinions. Social media, where like every other human of my age spends a lot of time (I, being no exception to it) has become the biggest source of news dissemation. From popular media houses to the sensational ones and most importantly the citizen journalists, each one of them are actively present on social media today, giving some updates or the other every moment. While it does mean that we get to read news from diverse areas and genres, it also raises the question of reliability. In the fast paced world, we often do not have the time to perform fact checks and simply believe what has been read by us. As a result, I have often become a victim and carrier of misinformation too.
I would thus conclude that Internet has become an inevitable part of my life, easing out almost every work of mine and specifically in terms of providing news content, simultaneously raising the question of authenticity at times.
