Media trials are instances of judicial approaches undertaken by the media entities outside the traditional journalistic domain, often in contradiction and appropriation of journalistic ethical standards. The media often positions itself as the investigators, jury and the entire court when it comes to reporting and covering certain news stories, mostly crime and violence. Through accusations, assumptions and allegations, media trials are criticized for going against democratic judicial procedures and endangering lives through false representations and reportage. From the famous Aarushi Talwar case as well the controversial circumstances revolving around the death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, media trials stand within popular public interest and dominate media narratives and is a debated and challenged matter within press dialogues and institutions.
