The constitution of India gives the right to all its citizens to express themselves. However, this is not an absolute right and has certain restrictions.
A) Article 19(1)(a)
This article states that the citizens of the country has the liberty to express their thoughts, opinions and can criticise the government.
Following aspects are covered under this rights-
1) freedom of speech and expression
2) freedom to broadcast
3) freedom to criticize the government
4) freedom of preet
5) right to information
B) Article 19(1)(2)
This fundamental right comes up with certain restrictions or limitations where we can exercise this right and where we cannot.
a) maintain decency and morality
b) should not harm the sovereignty and integrity
c) should not defame anyone
d) in relation to contempt of court
This right is important because-
a) it helps in self development
b) it ensures societal good
c) it respects democratic value
d) give a voice to each citizen of India
Hence, this right is a valuable democratic privilege that citizens of the country are provided with. However, this is not an absolute right and has certain limitations to exercise this right.
