“RELEVANCE OF PRINT JOURNALISM”
Print journalism and media have a rich historical legacy tracing back their origins to the invention of papyrus and the Gutenberg press; they have always served as faithful custodians of history. Print media represents beautifully curated paintings crafted out of words inked on paper. In an age of augmented reality and digital subscriptions print media has embraced the ravages of time and come up with ways to enrich the traditional format with design and personalisation by becoming a personalised messenger in a world of impersonal online feeds and understanding environmental responsibility by embracing sustainability through use of recycled paper, ecological inks and being mindful of their environmental footprint. With a reducing attention span in people and abundance of information available online It advocates for a thoughtful approach to consumption and disapproves of the disposable nature of digital content that is discarded in a mere click.
Print media has the unique quality of creating an intimate relationship with the reader, it is a breath of fresh air and refuge from the fast paced digital life. It gives a physical and corporeal sensory experience of permanence and durability. The unmistakable smell of ink of the newspaper with your morning coffee, the weight and glossy texture of a magazine can never be replaced with a screen. Moreover certain demographics such as older individuals or the rural population who do not have technology at their disposal find digital media uncomfortable and have an important relationship with print media which happens to be their only source of information and entertainment. The authenticity of print media offers a sense of reliability as the information is processed by editors and journalists which makes it highly credible and trustworthy. Today’s social media platforms lack the depth and emotional impact of print journalism. In conclusion “dreams and news are still inked and relevant” print journalism has traversed through the digital age with its endurance and innovation by resonating with the readers at a personal level.
