While watching the re-runs of Shinchan, on a random Sunday evening in 2015;
I hear it for the first time,
“Dabba hai Dabba, Uncle ka TV Dabba”
And even though young me vibed and danced on this jingle for HD channels on cable; older me has a different question.
“Is uncle’s TV (or for that fact, any of our’s) really a ‘Dabba’?”
In an era where digital streaming services are under a click of our finger, television remains a powerful medium. It offers a unique blend of entertainment, information and community.
While indeed the ‘newer’ media has created an unprecedented choice for viewers- Television still holds a special place in our hearts. It is still the ‘one-stop’ destination for plethora of media coverages; from live sports to breaking news, from agricultural programmes to cartoons and much more!
Especially in areas where ‘Over-the-Top’ hasn’t ‘Topped’ yet, this small (or large) box fosters community, brings families and whole villages together, and creates stories so magical.
And that is why perhaps, I’ll shout after a long day of work
‘Papa! Mumma! Saath mein TV dekhte hain.’
