JOURNALISM AND THE ROLE OF LIBRARY
Tom Brokaw once said, “Its all storytelling you know, thats what journalism is about.”
And I couldn’t agree more. Journalism in today’s world is multidisciplinary as well as multi-faceted. It requires honing a host of skills and one of them is the ability to identify diamond like information among a sea of coal. So if we were to talk about how important the role of library is in the life of a journalist, I’d say its immense. Not only because the archives, journals and books become a very important source of information, but also because when it comes to opinion pieces, you can only provide justifications if you have theories as well as facts to back them. Libraries also serve as the only reliable source when it comes to investigative journalism and it really streamlines the process of research.
In a library, we find millions of stories, both told and untold. And sometimes, you find stories and facts that need to be retold. The responsibility of a journalist is to share those stories, to bring them to light and to show the world, a new and improved worldview.
