Tinka Tinka Jail Radio and Kissa Khaki Ka

‘Tinka Tinka Jail Radio’ is an exclusive podcast on jails which narrates  and documents real-life human-interest stories from prisons to the outside world through the auditory medium.  This is among the several initiatives of Tinka Tinka Foundation, founded by Dr. Vartika Nanda, noted media educator and prison reformer. Tinka Prison Radio Podcast series is available on all major streaming platforms, including YouTube and Spotify. It has opened new avenues for jail inmates and jail staff for showcasing their creative talent to -the world at large. 

Kissa Khaki Ka: Kissa Khaki Ka is a creation of Delhi Police with Vartika Nanda as the storyteller and ‘Voice of Delhi Police’, describing the tales of police officials who go an extra mile beyond their call of duty to contribute to the society. These are true tales of crime and investigation of brave police personnel who have been incorporating their day-to-day duty with the spirit of service and humanity.. 


Characteristics: What distinguishes it from the multitude of other podcasts is its subject and goal. “Kissa Khaki Ka” was launched to serve as a bridge between law enforcement and the public. The podcast reveals previously unheard-of solved cases, offering a glimpse into the crime-solving process from the police’s perspective and the challenges officers face. It not only showcases their inspiring journeys to becoming skilled professionals but also highlights their community service and contributions to humanitarian efforts.   It highlights real-life incidents, bringing attention to the human side of law enforcement and solving criminal cases that often fail to make it to national TV, keeping the public informed about significant yet lesser-known events. This ongoing series features stories of bravery and courage, alongside cases of murder, abduction,  child trafficking, cybercrime, theft etc. 

Duration: Each episode of “Kissa Khaki Ka” runs for about two minutes. These are broadcast on all the official social media handles of Delhi Police.

USP: Delhi Police is the only police department in India that runs a podcast on a regular basis, with a wide range of stories ranging from murder, abduction to cybercrime and stories of support and humanity. 

Format: Kissa Khaki Ka uses the inverted pyramid style to present the 5Ws and 1H of each story. This format engages contemporary audiences efficiently, providing valuable information briefly and quickly to suit their fast-paced lives. By employing storytelling techniques and incorporating ambient sounds, the series aims to deliver the most information in the shortest time by directing listeners straight to the core of the story. The narration is deliberate and paced slowly, with the narrator’s voice conveying emotions such as joy, suspense, and sympathy to create an emotional impact on the audience. 

 
The podcast channel is free from any advertisements or sponsorships, emphasizing its principle of engaging with the public and focusing on content that serves the community. 

Objective: This podcast aims to raise awareness about police activities and rebuild public trust in the system. 

Storyteller: Kissa Khaki Ka podcasts are narrated by Dr. Vartika Nanda on an honorary basis. Vartika Nanda is a prison reformer using the best practices of journalism and academia for prison reforms. She is the founder of Tinka Tinka Foundation, which works for improving prison life, including the introduction of prison radio in District Jail, Agra and the jails of Haryana. She has authored three books on prisons. Her Tinka Tinka Jail Radio Podcasts are exclusive podcasts dedicated to Indian prisons. President of India conferred the Stree Shakti Puraskar on her in 2014 for her contribution to women empowerment through media and literature. Her name has also been included in the Limca Book of Records twice for her unique work on prison reforms. Her work on prisons was taken cognizance by the Supreme Court of India in 2018. Currently, she heads the Department of Journalism, Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University.

Special gratitude: This podcast series was initiated by Shri Rakesh Asthana, then Delhi Police Commissioner in 2022. It has been continuing under the leadership of Shri Sanjay Arora, present Delhi Police Commissioner.
