Journalism is basically reporting about daily news happenings around the world, it may be hard news, soft news, unbiased and balanced news stories.
In our paper ‘ Introduction to Journalism ‘, we learnt about basic journalism topics which we come across in our day-to-day life such as while reading newspapers, watching television news and listening to news on radio.
We learnt about ingredients of news such as timeliness, proximity, bizarre, geographic location, famous person; place or thing. These terms decide what is news and what is not news.
Hard news, soft news, balance and brevity in a news story, components of a news story etc. We also came to know about these terms.
After studying ‘Introduction to Journalism’ we are now able to apply in practical life such as finding hard news, soft news, unbiased news stories etc.
In our second paper ‘ Reporting and Editing for Print’ we specifically focused on print media. In this paper, we learnt about how to report and edit news for print media. We also learnt about interview skills which are very important for a student of Journalism.
Interview skills make us better understand how interviews are taken and then reported in print media. Other topics we covered in this paper include fake news, Neutrality and bias.
We always come across fake news which is a false information/ disinformation spread to get attention of the masses, or to get more viewers.
Neutrality and bias which are very necessary to understand and distinguish between them. Neutrality simply means a reporter should be neutral while reporting about any issue or event. When a reporter takes the side of one party, it is called biasing in the news.
It can be concluded that we have learnt about some basic and necessary things of Journalism in our papers which one should know about to understand Journalism in a better way.
