Ananya
/ Would a child crying, lost in the mall; listen to the discount announcements for ‘Calvin Klein’?
No. Right?
He’d run desperate for that one announcer to call his name and how his parents are waiting for him.
We all, are just like the kid. Desperate. Desperate to hear about events that effect ‘US’. And hence the need to localise news.
Localisation of news tailors stories to catch the eyes of the audience, impacted by it the most. It is essential for holding local officials accountable. By covering city council meetings, school board decisions, and municipal budgets, local journalists ensure that residents are informed about decisions that directly affect their communities.
It also helps to promote civic engagement and community building. By highlighting local events, organisations, and initiatives, local journalists create opportunities for residents to come together and make a difference in their communities.
So just like the kid in the mall, we need the one announcement, one that talks about us. One that isn’t all ‘me’
But a journey,
‘From Me to Us’
