The true essence of a democracy lies in its commitment to accountability, a principle strongly reflected in press reporting. However the national and international publications are getting seemingly out of touch with reality and issues at the local level. This disconnect creates a vacuum of representation that only local journalism or community journalism can fill.

Local journalism calls for thoroughness and understanding, resulting in qualitative reporting and coverage that digital journalism often cannot match. With a smaller area of focus, journalists are better positioned to engage in an in-depth analysis. Not only does it inform the public but also engages them with issues they are experiencing firsthand. Furthermore, in the pursuit of diversity, major publications often overlook local cultures. Here too, local journalism plays a crucial role in preserving and representing these cultures.

Thus, unless and until local journalism flourishes in a country, the press will always prove inadequate to the people.
