1959 marked the beginning of an era- Doordarshan,the public service broadcaster of india has been a part of the lives of millions of people for over six decades. The purpose of Doordarshan was not only limited to entertainment rather it has also shaped values, aspirations and cultures of many generations. I have grown up listening to stories about my grandfather’s childhood and how they used to wait for Salma Sultan to come on television and announce the daily news . Doordarshan has also reflected diversity and the richness of indian cultures. Although i never got to experience what the magic of Doordarshan was but i really wish we could go back into those simpler times .
