Doordarshan which is famously associated with DD is a public service broadcaster founded by the Government of India. DD has gained the trust of people and is still considered as the most trusted source for authentic and credible news.
Asking my father about his experience with DD he replied with a old tale of his. With only one television in the colony, my father and other people would gather in front of the house to watch DD channel as only that channel was available that time.
They used to watch news, matches, movies and soaps together for which they used to wait eagerly for a really long time. This used to be a really good medium of bonding and togetherness. TV shows such as SHAKTIMAAN, RAMAYAN, MAHABHARAT, HUM LOG and many more were very popular among the children and the adults.
With the coming of more private channels, doordarshan lost a large amount of its viewers. Not only doordarshan but all Government based channels such as BSNL and AIR. Now the BBC model is the best strategic choice made by DD to improve its marketing plans and tactics.
