Our generation lives it’s half of its life on phones and memes. Talking about television or shows that are broadcasted on it doesn’t appeal us and that is because television doesn’t represent our generation it talks to that generation that doesn’t have a representation either in movies or OTT platforms. But when did this barrier of watching different shows came into being? Movies and Shows were the part of Indian audience as long as anyone could remember it. Movies are being made since 1913 and television shows since the introduction of satellite television took the industry by storm. The saga of Indian television shows began in 1984 with “Hum Log” which was aired on doordarshan. But, DD’s image has not changed over the years as the broadcaster is facing tremendous challenges to modify its terrestrial imagery. Even though DD’ has lost its relevancy but DD represents the heritage of our country and it truly reflects the spirit of India. Maybe our generation doesn’t understand the magic of doordarshan but 80s and 90s knows the value and it holds a special place in their hearts. Due to lack of options and having DD1 and DD2 was the only source of entertainment for the whole family and sometimes for the whole society as well. The shows that were broadcasted on doordarshan used to target families as a whole, from a kid to grandparents everybody can watch and enjoy those shows. Nostalgia hits harder when shows like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Byomkesh Bakshi, Shaktimaan, Alif Laila, Shriman Shrimati, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Circus, Fauzi used to aired on DD. During lockdown, we understood the craze of Ramayana and Mahabharata and how these shows bring together the families during the digitalized era.
