Trial by media is a popular phrase which describes the impact of television and newspaper coverage on a person’s reputation by creating a widespread perception of guilty or innocent before or after a verdict in a court of law. There have been numerous instances in which the media has conducted the trial of an accused & has passed the verdict even before the court passes its judgment. It’s implications are; wrongful portrayal, not good for democracy, unable to distinguish fake & real, instigates hatred & violates right to privacy. Examples: Aarushi Talwar murder case, Sushant Singh Rajput death case
