On 2nd November of 2022, I stepped into Lady Shri Ram College for Women as a Journalism student. For me journalism meant the news report’s read on television by the news anchors, or the newspapers we get in our homes. But after spending almost a year studying the journalistic subjects, I got to know more about the intricacies of the field of journalism.
In the first semester, we got an introduction about journalism.
In the first semester, we got an introduction about journalism. From learning about the meaning of news to different ingredients of news like, timeliness, uniqueness, etc, we learnt many new things about how an event is carried to the reader; that is the news process. To get a better understanding and relevance of the subject we also studied about the history of journalism. Hiw different trends in journalism got into existence and principles adopted by reporters worldwide to present an accurate news story. To make the concepts clearer, we were given n number of assignments and reports to write. One such assignment which has been the most memorable to me is creating a ‘newsletter’ in a group. It was a very nice bonding activity with the new students of the department, also the creative process of collecting information and presenting them in the newsletter format was a very unique activity.

In the second semester, the paper, ‘Reporting and Editing in print’, taught us in detail about the quality of a news reporter, how to conduct interviews, and how to report it in print, how a newsroom functions, workings and functions of editors and sub editors and components of newspaper. We did two major assignments in relation to this paper, those were, first conducting interview and the other one was creating a newspaper. Both of these assignments in addition to being informative were fun and enjoyable to do. Overall, my experience as a Journalism student was quite enriching.
