In the 21st century, and being a Gen-Z child, radios are something which I have hardly seen, let alone using them. One oldest memory that I can recall in this context is, when I was in grade one, my parents showed me cassettes of their times which they used to put in the cassette radio. But, now, Caravan and Alexa has replaced all of that. My father told me that when there were no TV’s, they relied on radio for all kinds of information. In fact, he says that he heard the entire commentary of Kapil Dev’s famous 175* on the radio along with his entire family. During the time of emergency too, they were informed through the radio. This really fascinated me, because, of late the instances of entire family sitting together and listening to the commentary or news have really ceased. In the earlier times, given the lower level of technology, radio really brought people together.
As for today, my only encounter with radio, happens while listening to FM in the car – mostly for music and songs and hardly for the news. Apart from this, I spend time listening to ‘THE DEVDUTT PAITNAIK SHOW’ on FM as well.
