I have directly quoted the words of my father about his perspective on the All India Radio and to be honest, this conversation brought back so many memories in his mind and this is what he said-
“No matter how much I say, it still feels less when it comes to radio. I have so many memories attached with radio which have faded in the dust but remembering those days today has instilled a sense of ecstasy in me. Memories are ample but three to four of them are really close to my heart. To begin with, people relied on the radio to get news and other information. Many were passionate about cricket, when India won the world cup in 1983, we listened all the commentaries on this little device.
Even for entertainment, radio was the only source. There was a weekly show called Cibaca Geetmala by Ameen Saini ji; people used to gather in groups to listen to his outstanding commentaries and songs. Today too, you can search on youtube to check how amazing he was. In the morning at around 6:25, we used to listen to the news from BBC London and it was also aired in the evening around 7-7:30 but I don’t remember it clearly. We used to hear commentaries of different sports like hockey, football and obviously cricket. You all might think that a revolution has come today but we find ourselves privileged to be a part of the generation who have seen and experienced radio, tape recorder, CDs, VCRs. That world is now just in my memory but I want to add that radio is such an experience, such a feeing that I can never forget, rest it’s all blurry memories but that’s all I had- radio through my eyes.”
