When we talk about relevance, it refers to the degree to which something is connected to or
significant for a particular topic, context, or situation. It indicates how applicable something is
in addressing a specific issue or need. In an era dominated by digital media, the relevance of
print journalism is often questioned.
Print Media is used to describe any material that has been printed and distributed to the
public, the term print media is an umbrella term for many formats, including books,
newspapers, magazines and posters. Media serves an important role in keeping people
informed about the events and innovations around the globe. Although the process of
reproducing text and images has been around for millennia – ancient forms of printing
including cave paintings and carvings on stones – it was Gutenberg’s movable-type printing
press that revolutionised the practice.
For decades, Print Journalism has been a primary source of news, information, and
commentary. However, the role of print journalism has evolved.
Even after the advent of electronic media, the print media has not lost its charm or
relevance.
Print Journalism has the advantage of making a longer impact on the minds of the reader
with more in-depth reporting and analysis.Unlike digital media which focuses on quick and
short updates, Print Journalism provides detailed stories which helps the reader to fully
understand the complexity of the issue.
Print Journalism offers something that is tangible and lasting. It provides readers with a
physical experience: the weight of a magazine in hand and the texture of a printed page.
Overall printed materials can provide a more personal experience. Unlike a TV commercial
it’s not interruption marketing, which can annoy as well as sell.
The authentic value of print media offers a sense of trust and reliability. Once published it
cannot be edited or manipulated. One of the best things about print media is that it is
incredibly trustworthy.
The Internet has taken over the world, yet there’s (37%) portion of the world’s population
who haven’t used the Internet at all. Print media takes center stage in this situation and
maintains its relevance by providing accessibility to all age groups and reaches a wider
demography. It ensures that everyone in the world has access to information without tending
to electronic media.
In conclusion. Print journalism remains an essential part of the media landscape, valued for
its ability to deliver thoughtful, reliable, and meaningful content.
