“Ma,I’m going to watch TV, I’ve completed my homework!”
Sounds familiar? Perhaps to your childhood self….
Since 1927, television has been the nexus of communities. Earlier, kids and elders alike used to watch Shaktimaan and Doordarshan. Later, the focus shifted towards shows on channels like Star Plus and Colors. Now, in 2024, traditional shows are overshadowed by OTT platforms and Fire TV Sticks. The soul of television might have changed over time, but its body remains intact today.
Televisions have long been a symbol of community, communication, and status. Beyond just entertainment through Netflix or the Filmfare Awards, TVs also facilitate infotainment through channels like Discovery, music through 9XM, and even online classes by connecting them to Google Meet. TV’s have brought communities together, spread awareness about government policies, generated revenue through ads, etc.
Despite the pervasiveness of smartphones in our hands, with multifaceted uses, TVs continue to be the most adored ornaments of our homes and it is unlikely that this object will lose it’s relevance anytime soon.
