As a college student studying journalism my educational journey has been fantastic as well as challenging. Coming from a science background, it was not easy to blend in with students as I was neither good at writing or speaking. But studying journalism has allowed me to strengthen my weaknesses. I had only one picture in my mind when I thought of journalism, that was newspaper and television news. After enrolling here, I realized that there is a lot more to journalism than reporting. The detailed process of how we receive the final news and all the hard work that goes into making a valuable news. Starting with the first semester, I had Introduction to journalism as my subject. In this subject, i got all my myths cleared and got a detailed insight into news formation- What actually a news is, what are its ingredients, how should a news be like, is it a balanced news or neutral. I got to know how important it is to be a neutral reporter. A news reporter’s job is to present the facts, not to give their opinion. It’s the readers choice to take it in a positive or negative way. There were other topics as well which were also very important – history of news, yellow journalism, tabloid journalism. Learning the evaluation of news made me realize how much it is connected to science and technology. Coming to second semester, reporting and editing for print, where we actually came to the practical aspect of journalism. In the first semester, we only learned the terminologies but in the second we learned how to use those terminologies . How much a headline is important in a news article. There are different types of headlines and each headline has a different purpose. Headlines can make a news article worth reading or not at all. Interview was an interesting part in the second semester. We learned the theory of the interview as well as we did the practical. It was a group assignment and we interviewed rinku bhaiya. It was such a lovely experience.
Fake news is also such an important aspect when it comes to journalism. To generate revenue, how people choose to incorporate fake news to increase their readership and trp. It is a big issue in the journalism industry but if motivated to do good and follow ethics, it is possible to get rid of fake news. There is hope.
