Radio has been one of the major means of media for over a century now. Although it’s prevalence has reduced during these years, it still manages to hold the title of one of the major media sources. I was born into a generation that did not get to experience the craze about radio. All I listened to was the bollywood songs on Red FM. Its more of a nostalgia now, as I remember recording the songs playing on the radio with my sister so that we can listen to it later. As kids, of course you wouldn’t be interested in hearing about the politics of our country. So as soon as any news started playing, we would change the channel to the one with cheerful and loud music.
Somewhere on the way, we forgot about the existence of radio. With the arrival of mobile phones and spotify, with music right at your hand, radio was out of the scenario. We could now listen to anything, anywhere. There was no need to record any song. Life became too easy.
I’m sure even today, there is a generation that have thousands of memories with radio. And unfortunately I am not among the ones to experience the ‘magic’ of radio. I can only imagine the hype when it was first introduced. The future of radio lies in the hands of a generation whose talent and potential know no limits. The survival or rather the use of radio in the future is a debatable topic. Let’s hope this ‘magic’ doesn’t vanish soon.
