The internet, or net, is the largest network that connects billions of people throughout the world. It helps in communicating, connecting people, and disseminating information.
Just like every other work sector, the internet has also greatly affected how journalism is used, seen, and managed in today’s world. The Internet has surely revolutionized the way journalism used to be conducted. One of the significant impacts is that news can be transmitted to a wider and global audience. The Internet is the fastest way to send any news or information to even the remote parts of the world within a time period of seconds. Another impact could be the rise of ‘citizen journalism’, as there are so many media platforms anyone can transmit news and share their story. Through the rise of the internet, people have become more precise about what they want to consume and can get personalized feeds and news.
At the same time, we have to remember that every coin has two sides; online harassment can lead to severe emotional distress and mental health issues. The rapid spread of false information can influence public opinion and create societal harm. Personal data can be exploited for identity theft or unauthorized surveillance.
